So after being too scared to do anything baby the first half of this pregnancy, it feels like I am now going nonstop. After weeks of looking and interviewing, hubby and I finally found a doula we just love!! If anyone is in the Long Island or NYC area and is looking let me know and I will give her name. She is so thoughtful and completely respectful of our wishes. Because our faith plays such a big part of our lives, we felt it necessary to find a doula that would support this. I will be drawing my strength during birth (as with most everything else I do) from the Lord and being as I want to go unmedicated this will be even more important. I didn't want someone who would find it uncomfortable when hubby and I prayed outloud and recited specific bible verses. This beautifully kind woman has no issues with that and also shares our faith as well!!
This past Saturday hubby and I met our friends that are due the same day with twins and attended a breastfeeding class. It was great!! I have so so many fears about this and a lot of my questions were answered. It was only an hour and a half and I would recommend doing something like this to anyone who will be breastfeeding for the first time. Although I am still pretty darn scared, I am more educated and that always helps.
After finding our doula, we decided it was time to set up our birthing classes. As I mentioned, we are going to try and go natural so we are taking Bradley courses. We found a woman who will due it private in our own home. Although I would have loved the camaraderie of meeting other women going the same route, it was just too difficult to set up with my hubby's schedule as he works three jobs! So starting April 14th we will be meeting for 2 hours every Wed for 8 weeks. I have read from some of you how educational and important these classes were so I am super excited!
Lastly, we are slowly getting the nursery put together. This is taking way longer than either one of us thought. We have actually had the furniture for over a month just sitting in the boxes in what was to become the nursery. Because hubby works so darn much, finding time to work on the room has been pretty difficult. But finally over the past two weekends we have made some headway. We put bars in her closet (there were only shelves) and painted the trim and 2 of the four walls (we ran out of paint). I also put my glider together and it is SOOOO comfy! Once we finally finish the painting we can start putting the furniture together. Then on easter weekend my lil sis and big brother are going to paint the marsh grass/cattails and I will start to hang up the decals (that I haven't even bought yet). I have this incessant need for it to be done NOW so I am trying to relax a little and take my time to make sure everything is done right.
So that has been my life the past couple of weeks. I am just finally starting to feel like I don't have more to do than I have time to do it in. We think we may also have found a pediatrician that supports us doing a delayed schedule too, so that would be one more thing I can check off my list. And as busy as I've been, I couldn't be any happier. I am doing the things I never dreamed I would be able to do and I LOVE IT!! God is so good and I can't wait to meet our precious little baby girl!

Wow! That definitely sounds like a whirlwind, and with everything going on with your job, it's a wonder you have time to get online at all! I'm sure that everything for the baby will come together in due time. You have lots of time left. :)

i'm so happy for you Dawn - that you're finally getting to do all things baby and be able to really and truly enjoy it to the fullest! It's great to hear that you found a doula that you both love and are going to be so comfortable with for your med-free birth. You are one brave woman!! :)

I know exactly how you feel. We didn't really start doing baby things until we found out the sex at 16 weeks. Since then everything has gone by so quickly!! And we are always so busy! But I love it and things (like her room) have turned out so great! It will for you too!
I loved our Bradley classes, I'm sure you will too. Also we just went to our Breastfeeding class last night @ the hospital and I am so happy we did! I also am very scared about breastfeeding as I have heard from friends how very difficult it can actually be. This class really has made me feel more confident about it.
So you got your Glider? Mine just came in and should be delivered Friday FINALLY. (ordered 10 weeks ago!) I can't wait to sit in it!! & nap in it too! ;-)

I'm going through all of that "nesting" too! I just want to be ready before he comes, AND before I get put on bed rest again!
I'm glad you found the support you need and your breastfeeding questions answered. I absolutely love breastfeeding, and am really looking forward to doing it again!

congrats on finding a doula. i know that feeling of being half-scared to do anything during 1st trimester. I'll be at the end of it at the end of this month. Slowly I'm coming out of my shell - but not quite there. I want to get excited about nesting but it's so hard. can't wait to see your nursery! please post pictures. there's a great site called oh dee doh from apartment therapy with great ideas! good luck!
