Home birth is always something my hubby and I had considered, but after hearing countless negative comments all with the intent of scaring the ever-living s**t out of us, we decided against it.  However, it always lingered and I guess it was obvious to our team (midwife, doula & Bradley instructor).  The midwives we were originally seeing did not do home births so it was not an issue.  But once we switched, it became an option and one we began talking about more and more.  We knew/know that this is not something that is for everyone and there are many very strong (not always educated) opinions on the matter, but we felt like it was time we stopped concerning ourselves with what others thought and considered what we wanted.  Finally, on Saturday, with only 6 days before our due date, we made the final decision to have a home birth!!!  Can you tell we like to be last minute????

As I said, I know this isn't for everyone, but I really believe it is what best fits the type of birth my hubby and I are looking for.  Sadly, due to the strong opinions, this is not something we are sharing with many IRL friends/family.  Although I'm sure my mom will be supportive, I know that she would be unable to keep it from my father and he would fill her head with terrible thoughts and only negative outcomes.  So she will not know until the day I go into labor that it will be a home birth.  As for hubby's family, we haven't even decided if we will ever tell them as they were the strongest proponents against home birth.  There are a handful of people we know that are supportive and we have shared with them and are very grateful for their support.

Don't get me wrong I am certainly scared and do my best to fight the fear that others worked so hard in instilling in me, but I have prayed hard about this and know that it is the right decision.  I was not going to share this info on my blog as I was afraid of any negative comments, but I realize that you ladies have been with me from the beginning and have supported me through some of my most difficult times.  And as crazy as it sounds, it is easier not to share this info with my mom, then it is not to share it with all of you.  You have all been such an amazing part of our journey and I hope that you will continue to pray for us as we approach our precious baby girl's due date!!  Only 3 days to go (let's hope not 2 weeks)!!!!

I think a home birth would be awesome. Unfortunately, it isn't anything I've ever had the option of doing with all of my pregnancies being so high risk. I would love to have a boringly uncomplicated pregnancy and a home birth. That is great that you have the option. Good luck with everything! I can't wait to hear the birthing story and "meet" your baby girl!

Dawn, you have to do what feels right for you. No matter what other people think. Everyone is different and that's OK. I wish you all the best, and believe you can and will be successful in achieving your goal of a home birth. You have my utmost respect and admiration for taking this on. I think you're best to keep this from your family and friends, as not everyone will support you, and that's not what you need right now. They'll forgive you for not telling them once they see your beautiful healthy baby in their arms ;)

I'm all about birthing where you want to birth. :) Unfortunately, in our state, its illegal to have a midwife assisted home birth. You can have a birth at home on your own, but not with any professionals (crazy, right??). So, I've had all three of my little people in the hospital. But, that was fine, too. :)
