My precious little Adelyn is going to be a month old tomorrow!  I can't believe it!  Where has the time gone??  This month has been the most wonderful month of my life!  Addy continues to be the worlds most wonderful baby girl, and I fall in love with her more every day.  She is starting to get more alert and today I heard her coo for the first time!  She is also starting to look at me as if she recognizes me and my heart just melts.  Each day I can't wait to see what new behavior she has to offer.  She has such silly faces too.  Of course as great as it has been, we've had our issues.

At about 10 days old she was getting fussy but everyone kept telling me that after the first week or two that's how they get.  Then I went to change her diaper & there was blood in her stool.  It was actually pretty bad and I had to bring a sample to the pediatrician.  This was when they told me (thee world's pickiest eater) that it was a dairy protein allergy and if I was to continue breastfeeding I would have to cut it out of my diet!  Little did I know dairy protein is in EVERYTHING!!  It has taken me a bit, but I am getting a hang of it and Addy is doing so much better.  She sleeps like such a champ!  During the first 2 weeks I was having to wake her up 2 times to feed her.  After we learned that she had gained 15oz in 1 week, the ped said I can go down to one feeding during the night.  At her last appt she was up to 9lbs and now I don't even wake her to feed her.  She doesn't sleep through every night, but when she does boy to I appreciate it!!!

I ended up dealing with another breastfeeding issue when I woke up in the middle of the night crying in pain.  I had a clogged milk duct and no clue what the heck was going on!  I suffered through the night, then called my Bradley instructor (who has become a friend) and she told me how to treat it.  After continuous cycles of feeding on it (OUCH!), pumping, heat compress and massages, it got much better.  Sadly it keeps re-occurring.  I spoke to the women at my local LLL and they gave me some pointers to try and deter it from happening, but also said that some women are just prone to it (Oy!).  Even with all of this I am doing my best to continue breastfeeding.  And on the bright side it is the only real issue that I am dealing with.

I tried attaching some pictures but for some reason it won't let me.  Will try and put some up when it's working.

Wow, 1 month already. Time sure does go quick. The blocked duct sounds painful.

Congrats on 1 month!! Don't they just start changing so much every day. And the older they get the quicker it starts happening!!
As far as the blocked duct I feel you! I got one right around the same time with Kailyn too! Ouch! And mine came to a head and I had to pop it like a pimple on my nipple with a needle!!! Luckily it only has happened to me once. (knock on wood)
As for the dairy allergy, THAT SUCKS! I eat so much dairy stuff. I'm a cheese addict! Kailyn was very fussy and possibly colicky the first 7 weeks and a few people said maybe it was because of a dairy allergy. So I looked into it and cut down my dairy a lot. But I am pretty sure it had nothing to do with my breast milk because her stools were always normal and then it just went away and I still have the same diet.
Glad to hear everything else is going so good and congrats on the sleep!! Kailyn sleeps good now but definitely not like that @ 1 month!!
Can't wait to see more pics of baby Adelyn.

Yay for one month! Good luck with the non-dairy. I know that would be really rough on me. About a year ago, I tried to cut out some milk products to try to potentially balance out hormones (oh the things we'll do to get--AND STAY--pregnant). I gave up cow milk, and started drinking rice milk--which I'm almost positive is non-dairy. It's different, but definitely not bad. I look forward to pictures when you can get them up!

    Dawn,

So happy that you have reached this milestone in your life. Adelyn is bringing you so much Joy, I know :) And kudos to her for being such a good sleeper!

Sorry to hear that you are dealing with clogged ducts, NOT FUN. However, I do hope things turn around and those pesky things clear up and do not reoccur.

Have a great week and keep enjoying this sweet addition to your life :)

Happy almost one month!! I can't believe how quickly the time has gone by - I'm sure you're still feeling like you just popped her out! :)) Sucky about the clogged ducts - it sounds really unpleasant to say the least - but you have a good attitude about it and I applaud you for continuing on with bf'ing -- I know I will have a ton of questions when that time comes so keep me posted on what to expect (potentially) - can't wait to see some one-month old pics!

Happy 1 month! Good for you for sticking with the BFing, even in the face of a few challenges. I hope the clogged duct issues goes away though, that is painful! Kellymom has some good info on it, though I bet you've already read a TON about it by now. And is sounds like you have some great people as resources. Can't wait to see new Addy pics!
