Ok so I've made the offical decision that it is time to get rid of both the swaddle & the pacifier. So it's going to be a loooooooong week!! Addy is going to be 5 months on 12/10 & I'm done getting up to reswaddle her & she is most certainly addicted to her pacifier! I'm hoping that taking away the pacifier will help her nap better. She has a tendancy to wake up @ the 45 min mark & I believe it's because she thinks she needs the pacifier to transition. She is now in her crib with one arm out & no pacifier. It has been 25 min of whining on & off & "talking". Hopefully soon she realizes how tired she is & will finally fall asleep. I've decided to quit both at the same time for 2 reasons. Why make myself suffer through this again when I take away the swaddle & I thought that if she had her hands she could suck on them. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
My little one has also taking to squaking like a bird for almost all of her waketime. She now also wakes up exactly @ 6 to squak for anywhere from 30-50 min before falling back to sleep until 7:30. Although it's not ideal I'm hoping it's just a faze & at least she falls back to sleep (most of the time without me having to give her the pacifier). Here is an example of my squaky bird!
I was also hoping some of you ladies can suggest some good mommy blogs for me to follow.
*Update-I went in & reswaddled the one arm after a half hour & she fell asleep. Perhaps I won't be quiting both at one time.

the squawking is adorable :) I miss those days. My daughter would do that too. I always wondered what she was trying to tell me.
I kept my daughter on the pacifier until she was 18 months? somewhere around there. By 8 months she'd fall asleep and it would fall out of her mouth. Not really any advice, just saying she's still pretty little I let E keep hers because teething was no fun :)

Oh my goodness, the path of self soothing can be daunting :) Unfortunatley, I don't have any words of advice, as I will be winging it too. LOL Go with your gut...so much of mommyhood is trial and error :)
Addy baby is just adorable!

I love the squawking! Ella gives me a little squawk from time to time, but not a full on "speech" like Addy's yet. Is the the "falling asleep" or "staying asleep" part? I can put Ella to sleep with just putting my hand on her chest and shh-ing her, but she wakes up in the middle of the night (I think because her hands are freezing). So we're only struggling with the "staying asleep" part at this point (who knows--anything could change at any time!). Hang in there!

Hello there! Just stumbled across your blog. I have two kiddos who I swaddled. They were both close to six months old before I stopped. And I did it very gradually. I let their legs be free first, and then loosened the swaddle up top. I would do it the same way again if I had to. They both transitioned fairly easily to being unswaddled. As far as the pacifier goes, unfortunatley my kids wouldn't take them as much as I tried LOL, so I have no advice to offer there.
Good luck!

The squawking is so cute! I remember when Eliza started doing that, it sounded just like that!
GL with getting rid of the swaddle and paci - no advice from me, Eliza always hated both :/

What a cute little squawker! I have no advice on the swaddling. I am not sure what a swaddle even is. Are you using something called a swaddle, or are you just swaddling her in a regular blanket?
I quit swaddling R about the time I had my surgery. I am now gradually weaning him off the pacifier. I have found with all of my kids that it is easier to ease them out of whatever habit I am trying to break.
Good luck!

Zach took his pacifier till he was 2 but we only allowed it at night after he was 1...so maybe just try one at a time...I like the suggestion of unswaddle her feet first since she is a hands girl and might not care about her feet. But try one at a time...Zach never liked to be swaddled so im no help there.
